The film is a powerful front-line look at the reality of the surge and an unprecedented insight into the dangers they face. The film crew spent two months on patrol with Apache Co. By the time 4th Company reached the scene of the explosion, it was too late. Inside an overturned tank, seven colleagues are burning to death. As they approach the tank, live ammunition explodes. These soldiers were meant to be on their way home by now. "We've spent 14 months in Baghdad in constant combat", states Spc Lake. Instead, their tour of duty has just been extended. "You've got grenades going off, you're exhausted. And you're expected to relax in four hours before doing it all over again", complains another solider. Two days later, the men are back in the neighbourhood carrying out door-to-door raids. They search an elderly lady's house, leaving her traumatized. "I'm so paralyzed with fear I can't even stand up", she sobs. A few hours later, she will have another terrifying encounter with the soldiers. They drag the body of a man they've shot onto the old lady's porch. There's a real sense of anger among these soldiers that politicians have no concept of what they go through every day. And now, their tours of duty have been doubled. As one soldier states; "I challenge the president to ride alongside me for another 15 months".
